The Family Room LLC is a space for change, growth, exploration, healing, and personal formation. We are a community of dedicated mental health professionals and spiritual directors who are passionate about providing excellent care to both the local and global community. Our focus encompasses relationships, sexuality, trauma, depression, anxiety, mental health, spiritual issues, transitions, and cultural challenges. Together, we strive to support and empower individuals, couples, families, and teams on their journey toward well-being and fulfillment.

Founder & Executive Director

Dr. Justin Smith

Justin specializes in member care, marriage and sexuality issues, trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, TCK/MK/PK issues, and spiritual struggles. A seminary graduate and ordained pastor, he led the counseling program at Phoenix Seminary for 16 years before returning to full-time clinical practice. Licensed in multiple states and through PSYPACT, Justin offers marriage retreats and counseling intensives locally and globally. Justin brings a unique perspective as a third-culture kid raised in Southeast Asia. He enjoys coffee, conversations, new restaurants, and exploring. Married for over 30 years, he has two adult children.

Licensed Associate Counselor

Tim Mace

Tim helps individuals, couples, and families navigate relationship challenges, sexual addictions, anxiety, depression, and spiritual concerns. A Phoenix Seminary graduate, he integrates faith into healing. Tim enjoys traveling, nature, time with his wife and four kids, and working with carpentry and concrete.

Licensed Associate Counselor

Irene Vega-Morales

Irene specializes in working with women and children experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, trauma, and relationship issues. She helps couples navigate life’s challenges with compassion and understanding. Irene has a deep appreciation for cultural diversity. Fluent in English and Spanish, she creates a welcoming environment for people of all cultures and identities. Her approach is collaborative and empathetic, helping people uncover their strengths, explore their goals and learn tools to achieve success. Irene is a graduate of Phoenix Seminary. In her free time, she loves running, reading, and traveling with her husband and dog.

Graduate Intern in Marriage & Family Therapy

Dana Katbah

Dana is a graduate intern completing her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Seminary. Dana helps couples, individuals, and children negotiate life's challenges including relationship difficulties, living with disabilities, challenges of faith, and experiencing grief and loss. Previously Dana served as an advocate for crime victims with Southern Arizona Legal Aid, supporting victims of crime and providing training on victimization and trauma-informed practices. She has a deep appreciation for the privilege and humility of listening to and caring for all who share the deeply personal story of their trauma. Dana enjoys spending time with her daughter as well as in the outdoors, including camping, hiking, and fitness walking.

Spiritual Director

Dr. Brenda Dinell

Brenda’s passion is to facilitate spiritual formation in others as a companion on their journey. She has a Master of Divinity in Spiritual Formation from Phoenix Seminary as well as her Doctor of Ministry degree. Brenda is a trained Spiritual Director who walks through the losses and joys of life with wisdom and care. She leads a Bible Study for women who have been diagnosed with PTSD. Brenda enjoys hiking with her husband, reading, baseball, and spending time with her dogs. She is the mother of two children: Sarah (1992-2016) and Hannah.

Spiritual Director

Dr. John DelHousaye

John enjoys listening to God with soul friends and churches. He is Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Arizona Christian University, Theologian in Residence with the Spiritual Formation Society of Arizona, and an elder of spiritual formation at Alhambra Beloved Community. Previously John was a Professor of New Testament at Phoenix Seminary for twenty-one years. His interests include union with Christ, spiritual formation and direction, and the gospels, of which he has authored several books.
